It might not be 100% accurate but might be a decent guide nonetheless if you're using a non-current version of OS X as I am. There is another list on the 'net that indicates which cards are compatible with which OS X versions. Tgliche IT-News, Testberichte ber Notebooks, Smartphones, Prozessoren, Grafikkarten und anderen Komponenten rund um PC-Hardware fr Profis und Gamer. The list is at: Mac computers that use OpenCL and OpenGL graphics. This list is pretty current, listing Mac models up to the end of 2015, and it would appear that if you buy any of the cards listed there, it might work out of the box. Fortunately for me, a post elsewhere on the 'net gave me a clue and I bought a card, a card that proved to work out of the box the Sapphire Radeon R9 380 (no 'M' or 'X').Īpple has published a list of cards that support OpenGL and OpenCL. At the (rather large) computer components mall in town, I was not able to find any of the cards listed by Apple they have all been discontinued. I searched the 'net for a list of cards that would be compatible out of the box with OS X El Capitan but could only find an older list posted by Apple. The graphics card in my Mac Pro (Early 2008) had died and I needed a new one. I'm writing this because I couldn't find the answer on the 'net in spite of hours of searching.
